My previous three posts (1) (2) (3) about the Royal Ordnance Factory at Bridgend and the locomotives they used have been very popular. I’m going to finish off this series with a few more photographs of the sole surviving example now residing in Scotland. The photographs are all courtesy of Christopher Cairns who very kindly took them a week ago specifically for my use here on this blog, many thanks for your help Chris, it’s been much appreciated, not only by me but from all the hundreds of persons that have viewed the posts to date. First, let’s recall the previous ownership details of the locomotive:

ROF BRIDGEND No 2
0-4-0DM built by John Fowler & Co Ltd of Leeds dated 21st January 1940, works number 22888, delivered new and operated at the Tremains Depot. In 1950 the locomotive returned to Fowlers, presumably for refurbishment and then passed in March 1951 to Colvilles Ltd, Clyde Ironworks of Tolcross, Glasgow. where it was their “No 1”. In 1957 it went to Colvilles Mossend Engineering works, Belshill near Motherwell, still “No.1” and called ‘Lily of the Valley’. On 29th March 1970 the loco was transferred with ownership of the site to the British Steel Mossend Works and worked there until retired. On 28th February 1981 the loco moved to the Ayrshire Railway Preservation Group where it remains to this day, in the long term queue awaiting restoration.
